Volkswagen Golf Named Best Small Car

Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced recently that the Volkswagen Golf had been named "Best Small Car" in the 2017 Daily News Autos Awards, with praise going to the vehicle's safety rating, performance and luxurious appointments.

The 2017 Volkswagen Golf is powered by a turbocharged direct-injection 1.8-liter four-cylinder TSI® engine that achieves an EPA-estimated 25 mpg city/35 mpg highway when paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. With 60/40 split folding rear seats, you're able to configure your cargo space to your needs and get 52.7 cubic feet of storage space when the seats are folded down.

In a press release, Hendrik Muth, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing & Strategy, Volkswagen of America, Inc., noted, "We are delighted that the Daily News has chosen the Golf as its Best Small Car for 2017. The Golf is an incredible combination of performance, style, and technology, with a fun-to-drive nature that is decisively Volkswagen.”

In that same press release, Christian Wardlaw, Editor, New York Daily News Autos, observed, "No other small car touches the depth and breadth of purpose found within the Golf family. That it is fun to drive even in its most basic format and supplies all kinds of utility simply serves to cement the Golf's superiority.”

To select the 16 winning vehicles, the eight-member Daily News Autos panel examined every 2017 model year vehicle with a base price lower than $100,000. To be eligible for consideration, vehicles must have been on sale and available to customers before February 1, 2017. The panel of automotive journalists rated the 2017 models and arranged them in the order that the panel members would recommend the vehicles to family, co-workers and friends.
