I.D. Buzz Wins Concept Vehicle Award

For the second straight year, Volkswagen has taken home an award at the North American Concept Vehicle of the Year awards thanks to the I.D. Buzz electric concept earning the "2017 Concept Truck of the Year" award at the 16th annual ceremony.

The I.D. Buzz, which is the second model in the three I.D. concept vehicles from Volkswagen, is built on a Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) that shines a spotlight on how electric power can work with larger vehicles. The panel of judges heralded the vehicle's compelling mix of electric mobility and unique styling that's influenced by the historic Microbus and still forward-thinking.

The I.D. Buzz maximizes available space. It's approximately the size of a medium passenger car, but by housing the battery and drive system in the floor it's able to offer ample room for the driver, passengers and all of their gear. In fact, there's a gracious amount of cargo capacity on offer -- 162.5 cubic feet once the rear seats are folded.

In accepting the award, Abdallah Shanti, Executive Vice President and Group Chief Information Officer for Region Americas, Volkswagen of America, Inc., commented, "We are proud that the I.D. Buzz was chosen as the 2017 Concept Truck of the Year, and that Volkswagen has been given this honor for the fourth time. Volkswagen will lead the world in the shift to electric mobility, and the I.D. Buzz demonstrates the kind of innovative design and engineering that’s a trademark of VW's past and future."
