Volkswagen Reports May Sales Results

Volkswagen of America recently announced that in May 2017, the company sold 30,014 vehicles -- an improvement of 4.3 percent over May 2016 sales. For the first five months of the year, 133,861 Volkswagen vehicles have been sold in the United States, tallying a 6.9 percent improvement in year-over-year sales.

May's strong sales were driven by demand for the Volkswagen Golf, Jetta and Beetle families of vehicles. The Jetta sedan accounted for 11,535 vehicles sold in May 2017, which is a 5.4 percent improvement over May 2016. Beetle coupe sales jumped 71.2 percent while Beetle convertible sales grew 39.4 percent, leading the entire Beetle family to a 55.3 percent increase over May 2016 sales.

For 2017, sales of the total Golf family of vehicles have gained 49.0 percent, total Beetle sales have improved 27.6 percent and Passat sedan sales are up 11.4 percent.
